Restoring CINERAMA films:
Some Cinerama films that are still complete but badly discolored can
be restored by making a b/w print of the affected scenes loading them into
the computer and then colorizing the film.
This would be better then trying to restore one panel of the three, and then
have trouble matching the colors. It would indeed be an expensive and time
consuming process, but if this is the only way to restore the films that may
be lost forever then it would be well worth it.
It may even be possible to farm out key frames or parts of a films
picture to computers on the net for mass processing power, after processing
the information would be automatically collected be the main computer system
for eventual assembly into a complete picture. This is similar to the way
home computers are used at nighttime to help search for SETI type
information.
